Dániel Dobri
States of Matter
for Piano Trio (2018)
In this evocative and imaginative work, Hungarian composer Dániel Dobri explores the four classical elements—water (víz), air (levegő), fire (tűz), and earth (föld)—through contrasting musical characters. Each element is associated with distinct sonic materials, ranging from fluid and flowing to turbulent or grounded. Transitions between these states are achieved using aleatoric passages, allowing the music to “transform” unpredictably. The result is a continuously evolving landscape that reflects nature’s dynamism and Dobri’s inventive compositional voice.

Rok Palčič
Los Tres Reyes Magos
(2025)
Words by Rubén Darío
Slovenian-American composer and pianist Rok Palčič sets the verses of Rubén Darío, the Nicaraguan poet often hailed as the father of modernismo. Darío’s writing is marked by musicality of language, visionary imagery, and a search for beauty and transcendence amid the turbulence of modern life. In Los Tres Reyes Magos, his portrayal of the Magi is less a biblical retelling than a symbolic meditation on wisdom, destiny, and the human longing for meaning. Palčič’s setting gives musical expression to these images through vibrant harmonies and lyrical declamation, blending tradition with a distinctly modern voice.
