Dániel Dobri is a Hungarian composer, artistic director, and university lecturer.
He earned his master’s degree in composition from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he studied with Gyula Fekete, and subsequently participated in courses at the Peter Eötvös Foundation under the guidance of Peter Eötvös. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, focusing on the dramaturgical aspects of choral composition. Since 2024, he has served as a lecturer at the Liszt Academy and, in 2024 and 2025, was an IRCAM Fellow in Paris.
Dobri has received numerous international accolades, including the 2020 New Hungarian Music Forum Prize for his orchestral work PentaTones, the 2023 Artisjus Award for Best Young Composer, and the 2024 Istvánffy Award for his orchestral ballet Désir, recognized as the best composition of the year in Hungary. His chamber opera Un’altra Roma has been performed across Europe, while his works States of Matter and crash were featured in the 2024 Chamber Music Series of the Art Music Society in Washington, D.C., and the 2026 CAMP Ground Festival in Tampa, Florida. His music has also been presented at Bard College, Western Illinois University, the Bartók 80 concert in New York City, and by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
He currently serves as Contemporary Artistic Director of the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, and Contemporary Music Director of the Altalena Collective in New York. He is also the creator of Ask the Composer!, an award-winning interactive orchestral talk show presented in Székesfehérvár, Budapest, Rome, and New York. His music is distinguished by its interdisciplinarity, spectral approach, and the integration of acoustic and electronic elements.
